The 1965 Honda S600 was the previous generation before the first generation of Honda Civic was born which produced during 1964 to 1966. The launching was in March 1962. There are two types of this automobile, roadster and coupe. Both of them are featured with only two doors. Total two seats are offered. The development of this automobile from the 1964 to 1966 did not take a lot of changes. They are almost the same, except the headlights, bumper and grille. The different exterior design was only to upgrade the face look.
Rounded headlights and rear lamps are presented. White and red exterior colors seemed to be so popular at that moment. Chromed front and rear bumpers decorate the exterior. Elegant interior is completed with classic dashboard. Rounded designs are presented for the dashboard. Black interior color matches the white and red exterior colors. Firstly, the 1965 Honda S600 was manufactured in right hand drive. But later, it was produced in left hand drive to meet the market appeal.
There were two available models of Honda s600. The standard model is with standard trim while the upgraded one is with special colors, standard radio and speaker, exclusive badge, special antenna, cigarette lighter, reversing lights, heater, detachable seat track and better cushioned seats. This special model is called SM600. It was also a reason of the increasing production of this Honda automobile. Significant improvement has been noted in 1965, but decreasing production was noted in 1966 because Honda focused on the new S800.
Compared to the predecessor, Honda S500, Honda S600 has a complete engine. It was powered by water cooled, DOHC, 4 cylinder inline engine with 4 carburetors. The capacity of the engine was also upgraded from 531 cc (S500) to 606 cc (S600). 57 horsepower was produced at 8500 rpm with the 140 km/h top speed. 1965 Honda S600 for sale at that time was featured with independent suspension working with sealed roller chain.
